WSL Oregon Girls Player of the Year
Lakeridge Senior Attack Allie DeBruhl
By Brooke Tunstall

Off the lacrosse field, Allie DeBruhl doesn’t seem like she has the type of personality to be a record-setting goal-scorer.
The recent Lakeridge graduate possesses little of the swagger or arrogance so often associated with elite scorers in any sport. But on the field, well, let her explain it.
“I don’t know, something just happens and I just want the ball and, I guess, expect to score,” explained DeBruhl, who was the obvious choice for WSL Oregon Player of the Year. “I don’t want to say it comes naturally, but I definitely like to score and I want the ball in my hands and look to score whenever I can.”

When most coaches have a favorite memory of one of their top scorers, it’s usually an acrobatic shot or a fancy, how-did-he-see-that pass that springs to mind.
But when asked for one the most memorable plays involving WSL Oregon Player of the Year Henry Schoonmaker, Lincoln head coach Will Harris chose an attribute he says embodies his player’s style and success: Effort.
“It was a critical play in the (2008) state championship against (Oregon Episcopal). Late in the game we were down a goal,” explained Harris.

High School Coaching Icon Steps Down at La Costa Canyon

By Nathan MaxWSL Executive Editor
The most successful college lacrosse program on the West Coast over the past few years has hired one of West’s the most successful high school coaches to take over its program.
Dallas Hartley, who has led La Costa Canyon to four CIF-San Diego Section titles, has been named the new head coach at MCLA Division I powerhouse Chapman University in Orange, Calif. Hartley takes over for Mike Wood, who was fired in the offseason after leading the Panthers to three straight MCLA Division I final fours and a 50-8 overall record.
WSL Utah Girls Player of the Year
Alta Senior Middie Taylor Dunn
By Laurie Maddox

SANDY, Utah – Alta senior midfielder Taylor Dunn did not just light up the scoreboard and the stat books in 2010. She incinerated them.
The statistical line on Dunn is almost ridiculous: 87 ground balls, 49 forced turnovers, 43 goals, 36 draw controls, 13 interceptions and 10 assists.
This, from a player surrounded by talent and a team that has not lost a game since May 2008, won the 2009 and 2010 state championships emphatically and mercilessly outscored opponents, 288-49, this year.
Being the most dominant player on the most dominant Utah girls’ team was a role tailor made for Taylor Dunn, and it is the reason why she is WSL’s 2010 Utah Girls Player of the Year.

WSL Utah Boys Player of the Year
Park City Senior Middie Matt Mersereau
By Laurie Maddox

PARK CITY, Utah – Park City’s Matt Mersereau fits midway on the continuum between dazzling offense and suffocating defense – a complete midfielder more workman than showman, more hustle than flow.
The senior co-captain was a finalist for All-American and National Senior Showcase honors, but not a recipient. He racked up a game-high six points in this year’s state championship game, even as Park City fell, 10-7, to Brighton to finish 12-4 on the season.
At 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, Mersereau was not the biggest or strongest in the lacrosse class of 2010. But he played as if he was.
