SoCAL BOYS: Zach Rogers Commits to Providence College

Palos Verdes rising senior defenseman Zach Rogers has committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Providence College.

Rogers, the No. 25 junior in the last WSL Elite 25 individual player rankings, also considered Canisius and Fairfield before he settled on the Rhode Island-based school. Rogers said he will be getting a partial athletic scholarship.

“I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to play in the Big East,” Rogers said. “I liked all the coaches at all the schools I looked at, but it seemed like the right fit. It seemed like a lot of the kids didn’t come from Rhode Island, and I liked that because I’m coming from California.”

Rogers played his club lacrosse with the South Bay Starz and West Coast Starz. He said he first got noticed by the Providence staff when they saw him playing in Massachusetts with West Coast Starz.

As for making the transition from Southern California to New England: Rogers is trying to keep it low key.

“I hope I’m going to represent L.A. lacrosse well,” Rogers said. “It’s to be determined.”
