LOU BOYS: St. Thomas More Downs Baton Rouge Catholic, 8-4

Junior attackman Saban Sellers registered a game-high four points on two goals and two assists to lead unbeaten St. Thomas More to an 8-4 victory over Baton Rouge Catholic in a Louisiana High School Lacrosse League game Saturday afternoon.

Senior attackman Joe Boustany added three points on two goals and an assist, and junior middie Ashton Langlanais scored twice to help the Cougars (4-0) pick up their fourth straight win to start the season. Junior middie David Escott and senior attackman Spencer Todd each had a goal to round out the scoring.

Defensively, junior goalie Andrew Broussard saved nine shots.

Baton Rouge Catholic fell to 1-1.

St. Thomas More led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter, 5-3 at halftime and 7-3 at the end of the third quarter.

The Cougars led by as many as five goals in the fourth after Langlanais scored his second of the game with 6:28 remaining. Baton Rouge Catholic pulled a goal back three minutes later, but that was as close as it would get.

“I thought we started really, really sloppy in the first half,” St. Thomas More head coach Mike Guidroz said. “We were tentative, and Catholic’s d-poles played really well. I thought we came out better in the second half, had better continuity and communication and kept the ball off the ground better.”
