TEX BOYS: THSLL Playoffs: St. Mark's Tops Dallas Episcopal
Junior middie Fred Addy registered a team-high three points on two goals and one assist to lead No. 5 St. Mark’s to a 7-5 victory over No. 17 Dallas Episcopal in a Texas High School Lacrosse League North District Division I semifinal Monday night.
Sophomore attackman Daniel Trevino added three assists to help the Lions (16-2) advance to the North District championship game.
St. Mark’s will next face No. 1 Highland Park on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m., CDT, at Dallas Episcopal. The Lions lost to the Fighting Scots, 5-4, in overtime of the teams’ first meeting.
“We’re going to have to play an A+ game,” St. Mark’s head coach Hayward Lee said. “They’re good.”
On Monday, freshman attackman Will Perkins, junior attackman Charles Branch, junior middie Connor Watumull, sophomore middie Gil Cassagne and junior middie Elliot Chang-Tung all scored once for St. Mark’s, which has won seven straight, a streak that includes three wins over Dallas Episcopal.
The Lions led 3-1 at halftime, and the game was tied, 5-5, at the end of the third quarter. But St. Mark’s got the clutch goals at the clutch times to virtually assure itself an invite to this weekend’s state semifinals.
Chang-Tung scored the go-ahead goal about midway through the fourth quarter, and Perkins added insurance.
“It was a typical playoff game,” Lee said. “Tight, hotly contested and pressure packed. We’re just pleased to survive and advance against a very good team.
Dallas Episcopal finished the season 13-6, with 50 percent of its losses coming against St. Mark’s.
“I thought our team played with a lot of heart,” Dallas Episcopal head coach Kevin Barnicle said. “We went down and fought our way back. I thought we had a lot of opportunities we didn’t capitalize on. Their goalie played real well. He made big saves when they needed him to.”
