Penguins to become 3rd sanctioned men's team in California
When Ned Webster accepted an offer to become head coach of the fledgling Dominican University of California lacrosse team in January 2006, he took over a program stuck in what he called “a strange gray area” that wasn’t very attractive to recruits.
The Penguins – in just their second year of existence – weren’t an NCAA team. But because they were an NAIA school with scholarship money, they weren’t allowed in the popular Western Collegiate Lacrosse League – a nationally renowned club lacrosse organization.

Creighton Prep Senior Middie Alex Keyser
Creighton Prep’s boys lacrosse team lost a lot more than a starting midfielder with the graduation of Alex Keyser.
“I’m going to need three guys to replace him,” Creighton Prep Coach Steve Haney said.
At least.
For the last two years, Keyser was a first-line middie for Blue Jays. He also played on their man-up unit, was the short-stick middie for their man-down unit and took face-offs.
“Everything but play goal,” Haney said. “Just an excellent all-around player.”

Centennial Senior Middie Casey Howell
Athletic success in high school can be measured in many ways – statistics, scholarship offers, invitations to play in all-star games.
But true greatness in sport -- at any level -- is achieved by excelling when the stakes are at their highest. By coming through when it matters most.
Centennial senior middie Casey Howell did that in 2008.
Howell scored 50 goals and assisted on 12 others, but he was at his best with championships on the line.

Faith Lutheran Senior Attackman Madison Fiore
By James Joseph
WSL Senior Features Writer
Madison Fiore has quick hands and good speed. He has superlative field vision that he developed playing hockey from age 6 to 15. And he has more knowledge of the game of lacrosse than seems possible for someone who first picked up a stick in seventh grade.
But perhaps most importantly, the recent Faith Lutheran grad has a burning desire to be the best.
It’s the latter trait that sent the attackman to the East Coast to play in high-level camps and hone his skills.
