WSL Releases March 2010 Elite 25 Girls Player Rankings
Cherry Creek Senior Middie Annie Anton is West's No. 1 Player
By Nathan Max
WSL Executive Editor
MURRIETA, Calif. -- Stanford-bound Cherry Creek senior middie Annie Anton is the No. 1 ranked senior female lacrosse player in the Western United States, according to the new WSL Elite 25 girls player rankings.
This year’s Elite 25 girls rankings were compiled by the WSL editorial staff with some input from a select group of Western-based high school coaches. The vast majority of the players selected have either signed to play college lacrosse for NCAA Division I programs or were selected as U.S. Lacrosse High School All-Americans as juniors.
Some players, like Anton, met both those criteria.

Dartmouth-bound senior attackman Jeff Perkins scored the game-winning goal with 2:53 remaining in sudden-death overtime to give No. 3 St. Mark’s a thrilling, come-from-behind, 9-8 victory over No. 1 Highland Park in a Texas High School Lacrosse League North District Division I game Wednesday night.
Perkins scored from about five yards on an unsettled situation after he took a pass from freshman defenseman Bear Goldstein to give St. Mark’s (4-0) its fourth straight win to start the season and put an end to Highland Park’s 14-game winning streak. The Lions rallied from a four-goal, second-half deficit.
The two-time defending state champion Fighting Scots (1-1) also had their 25-game winning streak against Texas competition snapped. Highland Park suffered its first loss to a team from the Lone Star State since it lost,12-10, to Dallas Episcopal on March 28, 2008.

Arapahoe Defenseman is West's 10th-Ranked Senior
By James Joseph
WSL Senior Features Writer
Arapahoe Coach Guy Cerasoli has trouble pinpointing defenseman Davis Gunter’s defining game or play of the 2009 season.
Too many to choose from.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Gunter was a steady force for the Warriors throughout their state championship season. He always marked the opponent’s best player. He always came up with a standout effort.
Chris Small Lifts Chapman Past Brigham Young in Thriller
No. 2 Chapman 12, No. 3 Brigham Young 11 (OT)

ORANGE, Calif. -- Chapman senior middie Chris Small saved the finest moment in his lacrosse career for a live national television audience.
Small scored a spectacular game-winning goal with 11 seconds remaining in overtime to give the second-ranked Panthers a thrilling, 12-11 victory over No. 3 Brigham Young in an MCLA Division I game Saturday night at Wilson Field.
Playing before a crowd of more than 2,000, and in front of the Fox College Sports cameras, Small came through in theatrical fashion, spinning through two defenders before firing home a bounce-shot from 10 yards.
“It was pretty impromptu,” Small said. “I just got a step on him and felt like spinning was a good idea, which I normally don’t do. I turned around, I just shot it, and it went in.”
